Frequently Asked Questions!

Answers to commonly asked questions

Do you wonder what size fur is needed to complete a bear or rabbit?

Bears can be made from

1-bear cape or stole with long, front tails
1-bear waist length coat
2-bears hip length, swing type coat
2-3 bears knee length fur coat
3-4 bears knee to shin length fur coat

How long does it take to make one 16 inch bear or rabbit?

  • It takes 6-8 weeks to be made, plus shipping of 3-5 days.

How do we ship our fur to the bear maker?

  • I tell my customers to box up the fur coat/stole "and send them, insured," for at least the cost of the completed number of bears or rabbits that you want made or more.

What type of pads and paws (feet and hands) can we have?

  • Some of the better choices are suede, satin or coat lining. If you have a very supple pair of leather gloves, they may be used. If there are family or relative's initials sewn onto the lining of the fur coat, they may be used for the foot of the bear or rabbit.

What color or type of eyes may we choose from?

  • You may have real to life blue, brown, or green German glass eyes or black shoe button eyes.
What kind of stuffing is used?

  • Polyester polyfil is used in stuffing the bears / rabbits.

How do we know if our fur coat is too old to work with or is dry rotted?

  • Sometimes old fur coats have not been placed in cold storage during the warmer weather & the hide of the fur becomes brittle or dry rotted. If this happens, the fur may become too brittle to work with. Sometimes I can repair the hide so that I can hand sew the hide. If repair is needed, add 7 more days. But if it is too dry rotted, I can not complete the bear / rabbit.
  • To test to see if there is dry rot, pull the bottom satin lining away from the hide and gently pull on the fur to see if it pulls away from the hide. See if it tears easily. Make these tests around the neckline, arm sleeves, underarm, and front of coat or stole. If the hide does not tear or rip or fur pull from the coat, then it is probably stable enough to sew.

What is the cost to have my bear or rabbit shipped back to me after it is finished being made?

  • The first bear/rabbit cost $7.50 to ship back to the customer including the shipping and insurance. For each additional item made, would add another $5.00 to the shipping.
  • Example:
  • 1-bear/rabbit $7.50
  • 2 bears/rabbits $10.00
  • 3 bears/rabbits $12.50, etc..........
  • Each package is insured for cost of each bear/rabbit made. Not responsible for lose of contents above cost of finished items.
